The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is responsible for ensuring structural and thermal design robustness across the Raytheon portfolio of products. From preliminary concepts to fielded weapon system support, MA&T delivers innovative structural and thermal engineering solutions utilizing methods ranging from classical fundamental & empirically based techniques to state-of-the-art finite element methods leveraging industry leading commercial tools; all complimented and validated by tests executed in a manner to ensure cost effective yet technically balanced solutions. Raytheon is seeking an entry-level Thermal Engineer to join the MA&T Department. In this role you will get the opportunity to work on products throughout their lifecycle from initial design trade studies and proposals through qualification testing to enduring production support. Entry level engineers will join and learn from a team of 200+ engineers working in all areas of thermal engineering, and can expect a wide variety of assignments, from classical electronics thermal analyses to cutting edge test definition and execution including field test support at locations around the world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Experience in thermal analysis with any of the following tools: FloTHERM, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA or ANSYS or equivalent
  • Experience in mechanical principles to solve classical thermal analysis solutions both inside and outside of finite element tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with solid modeling CAD tool such as CREO or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Academic or professional experience in electronics cooling and aerodynamic heating analyses
  • Academic or professional experience in electronics cooling and aerodynamic heating analyses

Responsibilities

  • Perform hand calculations and determine requirements for higher order detailed analysis
  • Perform detailed thermal analyses to solve various program thermal design challenges
  • Generate test plans to validate analyses and verify hardware compliance to requirements
  • Support test setup and execution, analyze test data, correlate and validate thermal models
  • Work with experienced engineers on problems of moderate complexity to provide solutions within program cost and schedule constraints
  • Coordinate and lead technical peer reviews ensuring the technical accuracy of work product
  • Present results to internal stakeholders and external customers
  • Generate detailed, archival technical reports
