About The Position

The Contract Mechanical Engineer – Radiological Tooling will design a variety of mechanical subsystems and tools for executing and supporting operations in radiologically activated environments. This role will collaborate heavily in designing, testing, and validating new systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechatronics, or another relevant field
  • 2+ years of experience or related lab/field research designing structural and mechanism components in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high output on month timescales, on challenging assignments
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical disciplines such as static structures, dynamics/vibration, or heat transfer
  • Relevant hands-on experience building and troubleshooting mechanical systems and machines
  • Be self-motivated, committed to self-growth, and exhibit excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong organization, communication, and presentation skills
  • Perform activities such as typing or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics

Responsibilities

  • Generate simple, clever, designs for complicated, challenging mechanical problems
  • Quickly analyze (hand calcs, free body diagrams, FEA, motion analysis) proposed design solutions
  • Execute test campaigns to validate and deliver new machine systems
  • Support multiple systems in a high-pressure, heavily interfaced program
  • Maintain high speed and output over the duration of the contract
  • Contribute to maintaining organization and clarity of project documentation among a small team
