Duties & Responsibilities: Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering student to join our team for a hands‑on summer internship. This role is ideal for a self‑driven, technically curious engineer with strong mechanical design skills and a passion for prototyping. You will work directly with engineers across Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and R&D departments and contribute to real production and R&D projects. The ideal candidate is comfortable taking initiative, learning independently, and solving practical engineering problems from concept through implementation.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program (Senior or M.S. student preferred).
  • Strong SolidWorks/CAD experience (part modeling, assemblies, and drawings).
  • Proficiency with 3D printing (both FDM and SLA processes).
  • Demonstrated self‑taught, self‑driven mindset with the ability to take ownership of tasks.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with GD&T, DFM principles, and mechanical tolerancing.
  • Hands‑on prototyping or shop experience.
  • Basic understanding of electronics packaging or sensor systems (a plus, not required).

Responsibilities

  • Designing and improving manual solder assembly fixtures.
  • Developing fixturing for soldering robots and laser‑cut operations.
  • Improving potting fixtures and assembly processes.
  • Investigate and document torque requirements.
  • Improve test fixture quality with process and inspection criteria.
  • Improve test fixtures fastening.
  • Reduce the time it takes to load and unload fixtures.
  • Assisting with equipment calibration tracking and test‑equipment improvements.
  • Updating and improving SolidWorks templates and engineering drawing standards.
  • Creating new drawings and cleaning up legacy documentation.
  • Supporting exploded‑view assembly drawings and vendor‑sourcing initiatives.
  • Developing unit‑handling improvements to reduce damage and scrap.
  • Supporting compliance reviews and incoming‑inspection documentation.
  • Designing fixturing and automation enhancements for Keyence inspection systems.
