About The Position

General Summary of the Job: This position is responsible for performing medical assistant duties, while utilizing a variety of medical skills, specific medical terminology, and requires working under the direct supervision of a Physician. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating patients' surgery, including scheduling procedures, obtaining medical clearances, verifying insurance and obtaining authorization. This is a Full-Time Non-Exempt position. Work location may be in either the Orange or Irvine office, and flexibility to work at both locations based on business needs is required. Essential Job Functions: Prepare for clinic / Room patients Stock/clean exam rooms and nurse stations Assist with examinations and routine procedures Prepare injections Remove staples/sutures Autoclave Dispose of sharps and biohazard containers/bags appropriately Complete FMLA/Disability forms Complete Meaningful Use Answer patient phone calls Rx refills per provider instructions Waivers for DME, injection, and treatments Fit patients for DME Sign and fax physical therapy notes as instructed by provider Scan documents to EMR system Schedule surgery Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and relay coverage information and patient responsibility to patients Collect surgical estimates/deposits Obtain prior authorization for treatment requests, including PPO, HMO, WC Collect surgical clearances Communicate with patients, Physician, outpatient facility and/or hospital Cover for other clinics as needed. Expectations Maintain confidentiality. Follow the chain of commands. Prioritize tasks by level of importance to meet deadlines. Complete tasks in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Experience in an Orthopedic Practice or Medical Office, 1 year required.
  • Understanding of EPM/EHR system.
  • Knowledge of insurance authorizations
  • Knowledge of scheduling process
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making.
  • Skill in analyzing, planning, organization, and prioritization.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical documents.
  • Ability to set priorities among multiple requests.
  • Ability to interact easily and effectively with others.
  • Ability to share expertise and knowledge with staff to maintain and improve workflow.
