About The Position

Join our Laboratory team to be an integral part of delivering precise and reliable laboratory results that impact patient outcomes positively. MLS or MLT Registered Full Time - Monday - Friday and Every 5th Saturday 8am - 1pm Rotating Hours - one month 6am - 2:30; one month 930am - 6:00pm Duties: Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly. Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures; monitoring quality control measures and protocols. Serves as technical resource by participating in staff training; answering questions of other professionals; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, the pathologist, the patient physician, or nurse; reporting mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials. $7,500 SIGN ON BONUS Overview St. Louis Children’s Hospital is dedicated to improving the health and lives of children. Role Purpose Performs specimen processing and routine / complex testing on blood and other specimens which requires a knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good laboratory practice May also coordinate the activities of the lab.

Responsibilities

  • Reports and maintains record of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.
  • Documents patient test management problems/concerns on quality documents and initiates corrective action.
  • Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Performs laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, test analysis.
  • Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Monitors quality control performance and corrects any problems and or reports any problems to the appropriate department. Assesses technical and or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluate possible solutions and chooses an appropriate course of action to solve the problem.
  • Trains new personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
