Position Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Micro Coordinator. Responsible to implement curriculum and program activities, themed classes in the main studio at Lewis Street location. They are responsible for the supervision, instruction and development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy environment. Requirements

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Obtain hands-on Pediatric, Child and Adult First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Must be physically capable of observing and listening for stressful situations at all times
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds
  • Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm
  • Physical ability and stamina to perform the duties as outlined above
  • Must have a basic understanding of child development.
  • All candidates must have reliable transportation.
  • Job offers are contingent upon completion of a rigorous criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Site Director with implementation of daily lessons and curriculum
  • Teach children self-help skills and provide opportunities for independence.
  • Initiate activities and experiences that focus on all areas of development with consideration given to each child’s individual needs.
  • Follow written weekly lesson plan that will be posted and used as a daily guide
  • Ensure that all participants are within sight and sound of YMCA leaders.
  • Take the lead in preparing lesson plans, printing class rosters, preparing supplies, and activities and leading the 2nd teachers to set the tone and atmosphere for families and children coming into the space
  • Maintain clear and frequent communication with program participant families on any changes and sharing updates on new classes and opportunities
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed
  • Develops and maintains relationships with parents and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Stays current with development trends in the community and surrounding areas.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Provides assistance in classrooms, both during staff shortages and resolutions of difficult or unique parent/child situations.
  • Provides high quality service for members, with Member Experience focus expectations required for all staff.
  • Provides for upkeep, tidying up and resets of assigned program rooms and equipment and ensures opening and closing duties are met when appropriate
  • Maintains proper records/department files and develops statistical information reports that aid in analyzing results, assures facility and programs meet requirements.
  • Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
  • Adheres to all policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in employee handbook and other communications. Obtain and maintain required training.
  • Accepts additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
  • Must know where all children in the program are at all times
  • Space is monitored daily for health and safety concerns
  • Any health and safety concerns are to be reported immediately
  • Follow all YMCA Safety protocols
  • Maintain proper ratios
  • Must understand the difference between discipline and punishment
  • Establish supportive relationships with children and implement developmentally appropriate techniques of behavior and group management
  • Use positive verbal and non-verbal communication with children to build trusting and stable relationships
  • Set and consistently communicate limits for acceptable behavior with logical, relevant and immediate consequences
  • Ensure staff are knowledgeable on YMCA discipline policies
