About The Position

A leading clinical laboratory services organization supporting a large hospital network is seeking an experienced Microbiology Manager to oversee microbiology operations within a high-volume central laboratory in Nashville, Tennessee. This leadership role is responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing quality assurance programs, and ensuring timely and accurate microbiology testing to support hospitals, physicians, and healthcare providers. The ideal candidate is a certified Medical Technologist with strong microbiology expertise and proven leadership capabilities in a hospital or central laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS)
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience as a Microbiology Technologist
  • Experience working in a high-volume hospital or central laboratory environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in a related scientific or laboratory discipline
  • Prior laboratory supervisory or management experience
  • Experience leading accreditation preparation and regulatory compliance

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day microbiology laboratory operations and personnel
  • Manage technical and non-technical staff to ensure operational efficiency
  • Oversee hiring, orientation, training, competency assessments, and work assignments
  • Provide coaching, performance reviews, and corrective action as needed
  • Monitor staff productivity, conduct, and performance standards
  • Collaborate with the department Medical Director on policies, quality metrics, and operational improvements
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, FDA, and CMS
  • Lead laboratory accreditation readiness and inspection preparation
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control programs related to testing protocols, equipment, and supplies
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives across the laboratory department
  • Implement communication strategies to ensure staff alignment with operational priorities and regulatory requirements
