About The Position

A leading national healthcare laboratory services organization is seeking a Microbiology Manager to oversee microbiology operations within a high-volume central laboratory environment. This organization provides comprehensive clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology services to hospitals, physician practices, surgery centers, and commercial clients nationwide. The Microbiology Manager is responsible for supervising day-to-day microbiology laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining quality assurance programs, and supporting staff development. This leader will work closely with the department medical director and senior leadership to ensure high-quality, efficient laboratory services that directly support patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist (Required)
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Microbiology Technologist
  • Experience in a high-volume hospital or central laboratory setting
  • Background as a Medical Technologist required
  • No employment gaps

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Local Tennessee candidates preferred (Relocation considered for strong applicants)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily technical and non-technical laboratory operations
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, state, and federal regulatory requirements
  • Oversee staffing assignments and workflow management in a high-volume laboratory setting
  • Contribute to departmental goals related to quality, service, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and employee engagement
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and competency programs
  • Provide coaching, performance reviews, and ongoing staff development
  • Monitor employee performance, productivity, and conduct
  • Develop and implement effective communication plans to ensure staff alignment
  • Monitor compliance with accrediting agencies including: College of American Pathologists (CAP) The Joint Commission (JCAHO) Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Lead accreditation preparation and survey readiness initiatives
  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs related to test methodology, protocols, equipment, and supplies
  • Actively participate in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Partner with the department medical director to develop and review policies and operational metrics
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure service excellence
