The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily, complete all assignments, and attend required live instructional sessions. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. Teachers provide daily, standards-aligned instruction in virtual classrooms, delivering targeted lessons that meet the diverse academic needs of students. In addition to whole-group instruction, teachers offer individualized and small group support, provide timely and meaningful feedback, and assess student progress through grading and ongoing formative assessment. Building strong relationships with students is essential. Teachers are expected to maintain consistent communication and provide academic and engagement support throughout the school year. They monitor student attendance, participation, and performance, implementing interventions when needed to ensure academic growth and student success. Middle school teachers typically instruct a single subject within a grade-level pod. Teachers are also expected to: • Connect virtually with students monthly, at minimum • Coordinate and attend quarterly in-person events • Proctor state testing (virtual or in-person as required)
