About The Position

Provide services as a Molecular Biologist in support of the overall functions of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of this position is to support research inside our laboratory regarding biomarker studies using Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) in large longitudinal study cohorts. The incumbent will conduct isolation of EVs from human (and potentially rodent) plasma and other biofluids using appropriate techniques. In addition, will conduct characterization of EVs by Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis, Light Microscopy, Western Blotting, and other techniques. In addition, will conduct ELISA-type immunoassays using various platforms (ELISA kits, Luminex, Mesoscale, SIMOA, etc.); will perform QC assessments; assemble data in spreadsheets; assist in analyzing and interpreting data; assist in preparing graphs, figures and manuscripts.

Requirements

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Miscellaneous Biology, or similar
  • Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Certification
  • Skilled in Statistic packages such as R, SPSS
  • Skilled with NIH POTS
  • Experience in Western Blots, ELISA and immunoassays, Extracellular Vesicle characterization
  • Experience in Extracellular Vesicle isolation and cell cultures
  • Skilled in PowerPoint, Word, Excel

Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze molecular or cellular experimental data and adjust experimental designs as necessary.
  • Performs isolation of Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) from biological fluids (plasma, CSF, serum) and cell culture supernatant using established protocols
  • Conducts immunoassays (Elisa or similar) to measure biomarkers
  • Conducts EV characterization by Western Blots, Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis, Nanoview and similar methodologies
  • Evaluate new technologies to enhance or complement current research.
  • Perform quality control, validation, and other quality activities to verify performance of clinical assays.
  • Maintain precise and complete records of all experimental activities, to include methodologies, instrumentation and findings for futrure reference.
  • Input accurate record of all research activties and findings in in-house databases and repositories.
  • Prepare routine status updates and outcome briefings to peer researchers and senior program executives.
  • Provide routine activity updates and briefings to senior researchers and program executives.
  • Prepare statistical packages of results and findings for use by other researchers and scientists.
  • Maintain deep understanding of research methodologies and the latest trends and developments in molecular and celluar biological testing and research.
  • Consult with diverse, cross-functional stakeholder groups to identify opportunities, develop problem statements and understand context to inform research strategies.
  • Search scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures.
  • Collaborate with professional and academic societies, associations and organizations to identify new approaches to diagnostic testing and prepare recommendations for adoption.
  • Produce final reports and presentations of experiments and findings for distribution internally among researchers and senior administrators.
  • Write scholarly articles for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals.
  • Develop and present original research findings and professional and scientific conferences and workshops.
  • Review and edit papers, reports, presentations and articles produced by other researchers for distribution internally and externally.
  • Conduct EV isolation using established laboratory protocols in plasma/serum samples from large cohorts, including but not limited to CHARIOT-PRO, HABS, BLSA and University of Basel cohort.
  • Conduct immunoassays, including ELISA, Luminex, Mesoscale, SIMOA, etc.
  • Characterize EVs by NTA, WB and other techniques.
  • Record and organize data in spreadsheets.
  • Prepare graphs, figures and tables based on data.
  • Conduct statistical analysis.
  • Interpret results and contribute to writing of publications.
  • Meet with lab members to present updates and Clean Equipment
