About The Position

The Manager of Network Engineering will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role leverages deep technical expertise in server administration and networking to lead a team of engineers, ensuring high availability, security, and the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects, including the evolution of voice and data communication systems.

Requirements

  • Infrastructure Management: Manages and develops all aspects of network and server environments to ensure maximum uptime and security.
  • Lifecycle Oversight: Manages all stages of hardware and software lifecycles, from procurement and configuration to decommissioning.
  • Technical Leadership: Plans, organizes, and prioritizes the activities of an engineering team (5–10 people) to meet organizational objectives.
  • Strategic Communication: Articulates complex technical resolutions or network strategies in a clear, compelling manner for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Market & Tech Analysis: Researches market conditions and emerging technologies (VOIP, SD-WAN, Cloud Networking) to benefit the organization.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyzes network traffic and server metrics to assist in compiling reports for capacity planning.
  • Stakeholder Management: Identifies key business partners, analyzes their connectivity expectations, and develops strategies for meeting those needs.
  • Project Execution: Identifies, sequences, and resources project schedules for timely completion of large-scale upgrades.
  • Risk Mitigation: Plans, monitors, and prioritizes infrastructure risks, creating robust disaster recovery and response plans.
  • Change Strategy: Develops effective change management strategies for network deployments, including transition states and release plans for VOIP rollouts.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Experienced practitioner with 6 to 10 years of experience in Network Engineering and Server Administration, including a strong background as an Individual Contributor (IC).
  • Managerial Experience: Proven experience leading teams (5–10 people) and managing large projects, specifically upgrading legacy PBX systems to VOIP. (Minimum 1–2 years in a formal leadership role preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all aspects of the network life cycle, including long- and short-term infrastructure development and maintenance.
  • Perform technical analyses to stay abreast of networking trends and ensure the organization’s competitive technological position.
  • Define and deliver networking and VOIP services that meet business needs by selecting the best possible architectural approaches available within established enterprise systems.
  • Deliver defined features and functionality from the engineering program, specifically overseeing the stability of server environments and the integration of voice-over-IP protocols.
  • Research data from network performance, traffic patterns, and system logs to identify opportunities for infrastructure improvement and latency reduction.
  • Explore complex network issues, establishing potential root causes and barriers to connectivity, as well as related security vulnerabilities.
  • Execute the development plan for new infrastructure, specifically managing the migration of legacy PBX systems to modern VOIP solutions; manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret large datasets related to network usage and server load; identify patterns to uncover capacity needs and opportunities for hardware or software optimization.
  • Edit technical documentation in line with organizational style guidelines, including network diagrams, SOPs, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific uptime goals and infrastructure milestones.
  • Review the backlog of engineering tasks and reprioritize work for the team to reduce technical debt and increase the value of the infrastructure delivered to the business.
  • Provide advice, training, and assistance to team members and internal clients to resolve complex network queries, ensuring VOIP and server capabilities are fully understood.
  • Demonstrate the most valuable technical attributes of the network stack; lead a team of engineers to maintain peak performance during high-demand periods.
  • Develop own capabilities and those of the team by participating in development planning, technical coaching, and formal training; maintain relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, MCSE, or VOIP specialties) to fulfill personal and departmental potential.
