About The Position

Northeastern Junior College is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Athletic and Event Center Director. The Athletic and Event Center Director will provide leadership and management for all NJCAA athletic programs and the Bank of Colorado Event Center. This director must possess a working knowledge of NJCAA processes, policies, and compliance requirements; ensure effective efficient operations of athletic programs and event center management; and ensure compliance in all areas. This position also is responsible for the supervision of head coaches and event center personnel. Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in appropriate field or five years of experience in collegiate athletics
  • Understanding of NJCAA processes and policies
  • Understanding of budgeting and life-cycle planning
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend events
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with athletes, coaches, leadership, donors, community members and the college team in a positive, relationship-building way
  • Knowledge of and experience with computers
  • Valid Colorado driver license
  • Must submit to and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check as a condition of hire, including fingerprinting
  • Positive attitude that can inspire coaches, athletes, and the community
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent public speaking ability, as well as effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with standard MS Office programs

Responsibilities

  • Direct the planning and organization of all NJCAA athletic programs and the Bank of Colorado Event Center
  • Manage and administer athletic programs according to NJCAA, federal, state and institutional guidelines, policies and regulations
  • Oversee day-to-day operations within department including approval of expenditures, travel, leave, fundraising, community outreach, game management, compliance, and concessions
  • Supervise and evaluate head coaches and Event Center Manager and Supervisors including performance reviews, professional development, and oversight
  • Coordinate hiring of head and assistant coaches as well as Event Center hourly personnel
  • Provide and analyze procedures, organization, data and records maintenance to monitor all athletic eligibility and compliance records
  • Responsible for athletic scholarship packaging, eligibility, compliance and funds maintenance
  • Manage athletic budget development and monitoring; reconcile scholarship accounts and provide monthly reports
  • Award athletic scholarships, which includes working closely with the NJC Foundation and Financial Aid Office
  • Ensure security, confidentiality, and retention of athletic records, scholarship letters of intent, and other required documents related to athletic activities
  • Schedule and monitor the Event Center for college activities, high school activities, special events and community activities
  • Coordinate, plan, execute and provide financial reporting for the Cajun Boil (major athletic department fundraiser) and coordinate department-wide fundraising efforts
  • Represent Northeastern Junior College at Region 9 Athletic Meetings online and in person
