About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Nurse Specialist, Programs to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl. CORE JOB SUMMARY The Nurse Specialist, Programs assesses a healthcare facility's nursing programs and their impact on patient outcomes. Moreover, the incumbent provides direction to nursing staff in the delivery of patient care programs and ensures nursing staff sustain an established level of competency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Valid State of Florida RN license required

Responsibilities

  • Performs medical tests in patients to diagnose their health condition.
  • Interprets laboratory test results of patients.
  • Recommends treatment plan for patients based on diagnosis.
  • Counsels individuals and patients on positive health practices.
  • Provides the latest cost-effective nursing practices.
  • Collaborates with other team of experts to outline best treatment for patients.
  • Performs holistic evaluation of specialty population, making use of enhanced proven techniques and procedures to achieve better results.
  • Implements the improvement of patient care, and healthcare policies and resources.
  • Mentors other healthcare professionals by functioning as a preceptor or coordinating preceptors for visiting professionals, students, new graduates, and orienteers.
  • Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional and technical organizations, and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Maintains a database of all patients with rectal cancer.
  • Monitors patients with suspected and confirmed rectal cancer throughout their diagnostic and treatment pathways.
  • Ensures treatment pathways are followed in accordance with agreed guidelines and time targets for relevant interventions.
  • Obtains biopsy pathology slides/reports, pathology specimen photographs and ensures pre-treatment CEA level is drawn and documented in the medical record before definitive treatment.
  • Ensures pre-treatment imaging workup is available to stage patients before initiating definitive treatment (CT, PET/CT chest, abdomen, and pelvis and/ or MRI of the pelvis).
  • Acts as a liaison with relevant departments within the facility and referring organizations to ensure all pertinent information is accurate and available on a timely basis to present at RC-MDT meetings to enable clinical decision making.
  • Ensures that all appointments, diagnostic tests, and treatments are booked within the time targets defined by NAPRC standards and helps expedite appointments as necessary.
  • Ensures that definitive treatment begins within the required time frame (60 days) from initial evaluation for untreated rectal cancer patients.
  • Monitors treatment for adjuvant therapy after surgical resection to ensure that the patient begins treatment within 8 weeks after surgery if applicable.
  • Provides comprehensive administrative support for the RC-MDT meetings to include meeting minutes, patient summaries and treatment plans.
  • Ensures meetings are held as scheduled with interdisciplinary member participation.
  • Records attendance at meetings and tracks yearly compliance.
  • Ensures each patient has a pre-treatment and post-treatment multidisciplinary team discussion and that they are documented in the medical record.
  • Sends summaries of meeting minutes to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Sends standardized pre and post treatment summaries of discussion outcomes to the patient's primary care doctor and/or referring physician.
  • Works closely with the Program Director to assess ongoing standard compliance and develop action plans as applicable, coordinate survey activities, track and document required education for RC-MDT members and participate in data collection and reporting for quality improvement projects.
  • Assist in the development and revision of rectal program policies and procedures.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in daily activities and perform other duties as assigned.
