About The Position

The Office of Institutional Advancement at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking a dynamic Officer, Philanthropic Giving, who will help drive revenue growth through the strategic management of a portfolio consisting of donors and prospects. The Officer will have capacity to make annual gifts up to $100,000 and major gifts of $100,000-$500,000. With a focus on leadership giving, the Officer, Philanthropic Giving will serve as a relationship manager throughout the donor lifecycle to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward five- and six-figure gifts. This position is a part of an energetic team of frontline fundraisers reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Leadership Giving. The Officer will work closely with the Assistant Vice President to identify, develop, and support areas of strategic opportunity, including International and Family giving; to grow the community of donors to Teachers College priorities. The Officer will be a highly-motivated, entrepreneurial, and collaborative professional who excels at relationship building and devising prospecting strategies. A strategic thinker, the Officer will work closely with the Assistant Vice President as well as colleagues across Institutional Advancement and the broader TC community. Their focus will be to ensure the College has sustainable resources to realize its mission to make a smarter, healthier and more equitable world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 4 to 6 years of nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in individual giving, especially closing five and six-figure gifts
  • Proven strength in relationship-building and emotional intelligence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to be clear and concise
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time
  • Experience using databases

Nice To Haves

  • Masters or Advanced degrees and/or related certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with Planned Giving a plus.
  • Success in a complex, fast-paced organization serving multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term donor relationships and implement solicitation plans with a balanced approach to acquisition, retention, and upgrades, by focusing on a portfolio of approximately 100 donors and prospects with the capacity to make five and six-figure gifts.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador of TC's priorities, advancing Institutional Advancement's and the College's strategic plans in interactions with donors.
  • Facilitate collaboration with colleagues across Institutional Advancement and the broader TC community that advances donor relationships.
  • Achieve goals and metrics related to donor visits, solicitations, gifts and pledges closed and other critical KPIs.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Vice President to identify, develop, and support areas of strategic opportunity, including International and Family giving.
  • Collaborate closely with the TC Fund & Alumni Relations team to leverage mass solicitations, giving society recognition, giving days and other opportunities to increase donor retention, drive donor upgrades, and increase engagement.
  • Staff on-campus events and travel as needed to meet with prospective and current donors.
  • Ensure that all fundraising activity, including contact reports, proposals, and data updates, for donors are accurate, up-to-date, and recorded in Raisers Edge, the College's database of record for all donor information.
  • Partner as necessary with Advancement Services, Prospect Development, Donor Relations & Stewardship, and other colleagues to ensure coordinated and timely record keeping and relationship management.
