About The Position

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) provides specialized perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in a high-acuity operating room environment. The nurse is responsible for ensuring patient safety before, during, and after surgery while supporting surgeons and the surgical team throughout procedures. This role involves working in a fast-paced surgical setting within a Level 1 trauma, teaching hospital and requires experience across multiple surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedics, trauma, neurosurgery, and robotic-assisted procedures.

Requirements

Active Registered Nurse (RN) License – New York State .
Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room nursing experience .
Experience in multiple surgical specialties including: General Surgery Orthopedic Surgery Trauma Surgery Neurosurgery Robotic-assisted procedures
Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and sterile techniques .
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Provide perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
Prepare the operating room and ensure sterile surgical environments are maintained.
Assist surgeons and surgical teams during procedures as a circulating nurse .
Monitor patient status throughout surgical procedures and ensure patient safety.
Verify surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning properly.
Maintain accurate surgical documentation and patient records in the electronic medical record system.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
Follow strict infection control, sterile technique, and operating room safety protocols .
Assist with patient positioning, surgical counts, and coordination of surgical workflow.
Participate in post-operative patient care coordination and handoff communication.
