Opportunity to grow as part of the Ophthalmic Technician Career Ladder! Job Summary: The Ophthalmic Technician III provides excellent patient care from basic eye health to surgical interventions. The technicians assist the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients. Our technicians are responsible for managing patients based on the appointment types, triage phone calls, performing testing and imaging as needed, ensuring exam rooms are prepped, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of ophthalmology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience including certification(s) in COA, JCAHPO, COT or refractive certifications or AOBC.
  • Experience in ophthalmic care in one or more of the following imaging modalities: visual field testing, optical coherence tomography, Fundus photography, Specular biomicroscopy, Corneal topography, Ophthalmic work-up technical skills, Study certification for clinical trials, A-Scans, Scribing.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency conducting anterior imaging, anterior segment slit lamp evaluation, refinement refraction, and basic ophthalmic pre-examinations.
  • CPR required.

  • Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting
  • Prior EMR experience

Responsibilities

  • Pre-examination of patients for all specialties across all sites.
  • Assist physician with in-office procedures (i.e. lasers, intra-vitreal injections and minor procedures).
  • Greet patients and visitors (ensure patients have completed screening process and appropriate equipment upon arrival).
  • Call triage of patient matters such as post-operative concerns, prescription refill requests and medical questions.
  • Responsible for patient histories, visual acuity assessment and manual refractions, anterior segment examination, applanation tonometry, pupil evaluation, confrontation field and Amsler grid testing.
  • Perform basic diagnostic testing such as visual fields, specular microscopy, IOL master/Immersion A-scans, Atlas/Pentacam topography, pneumatonometry, and OCT.
  • Accurate documentation and reconciliation of drug logs.
  • Responsible for sterilization and calibration of instruments.
  • Assist with onboarding new staff.
  • Assist Supervisor/Manager with special projects.
