About The Position

Orientation Coordinators (OC) are expected to plan and implement the Orientation Leader (OL) training. This includes but is not limited to leading activities and creating documents for a successful training week. The OCs will lead a group of 6-10 OLs through the training week and New Student Orientation (NSO). During NSO, OCs will be expected to set up for a variety of events for the new students and create an open channel of communication from the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development to all other orientation student staff. Requirements

  • Exhibits leadership potential and experience
  • Good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5
  • Good disciplinary standing
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and goals of the Orientation program
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of team members, students and parents
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the college’s people, community, programs, policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated record of flexibility, responsibility and willingness to assist others
  • Must be enrolled at Ringling College of Art and Design
  • Previous orientation experience (Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant, etc.) and/or active student leadership involvement (E-Board Officer), or alternative leadership experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee 6-10 Orientation Leaders
  • Model appropriate actions and behaviors
  • Facilitate the OL group interview during the spring semester
  • Advise and counsel OLs and students and refer, when appropriate, to additional resources
  • Assists Orientation Leaders when help is needed
  • Serve as a Mentor and Role Model to Orientation Leaders
  • Develop the OL training schedule and training materials
  • Attend and participate in all training sessions during the fall
  • Supervise activity while living among new students attending Orientation sessions
  • Serve as a positive representative of the College to new students and their parents
  • Facilitate new students’ introduction to the College by maintaining an open, helpful attitude and using effective communication techniques
  • Promote interaction among new students during small group discussions, icebreakers, meals and evening activities
  • Answer student and parent questions about social and academic aspects of College life
  • Work closely and cooperate with other Orientation Leaders and Orientation & New Student Programs professional staff to develop, prepare, implement and evaluate the Orientation programs
  • Collaborate with Residence Life to bond with Resident Assistants during weeks of training and NSO
  • Work with Orientation staff to assist with and support all aspects of the Orientation program, including Move-In Days, International Student Orientation, NSO Orientation, Volunteerism projects, etc.
  • Provide administrative support for the program, including preparation of Orientation material
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an environment that is conducive to the development of belonging for new students
  • Maintain open communication and consistent dialogue with the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development throughout the orientation timeline
  • Keep the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development informed of all important situations and developments during NSO, including verbal and written communications between students, parents, and other Orientation Leaders
  • Work for long hours, sometimes starting at 7:00AM
  • Solve problems independently
  • Understanding, adhering to, and upholding all regulations applicable to Ringling College students, including all national, state, and local laws
  • Familiarity with the administrative procedures of the Office of Student Life
  • Lead training activities designated by the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development
  • Other duties as assigned.
