About The Position

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Dune Deck Beach Club, set in Westhampton Beach, New York. Dune Deck Beach Club is seeking a Seasonal Outdoor Pursuits Manager to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department. This position is available from March 8, 2026 to October 5, 2026. The Outdoor Pursuits Manager is responsible the managing the operation of the Outdoor Pursuits Department. The Outdoor Pursuits Manager is responsible for coordinating and planning the OP program including all on land, water, racquets, and Kids Club programming. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a resort setting or in the luxury related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience of staff supervision is required.
  • Full knowledge of all Outdoor Pursuits services/activities.
  • First aid/CPR qualified.
  • Must have knowledge of outdoor recreation and marine environment.
  • Must be capable and comfortable swimming in the ocean.
  • Previous experience teaching/coaching outdoor watersports sports.
  • Previous experience in the guest service industry.
  • Have and maintain active Discovery 4 Life and American Red Cross CPR, AED, First Aid certifications.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain the policies and procedures for Outdoor Pursuits which reflects the highest standard of operation and member service
  • Instruct staff and third-party vendors to provide the utmost care for the safety and security of members, guests, and prospects when involved in water and sports related activities.
  • Manage staffing needs and candidate selection: sort applications, communicate with rehires and assist with the onboarding of staff for the upcoming season. Check for valid certifications with diligence. Schedule all necessary training.
  • Maintain up to date inventory of department equipment as well as loss prevention efforts.
  • Manage the Kids Camp Program.
  • Oversee Training and Development of Outdoor pursuits staff.
  • Management and implementation of marine and on land Standard Operating procedures and manage member, visitor and team compliance.
  • Ensure the activities offered to the members are safe and follow SOP guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of activities and instruct activities including, but not limited to Kitesurfing, Tennis, Pickleball, Volleyball, Paddle boarding, Tubing and Watersports.
  • Provide and maintain a fun and positive work environment for both members and staff.
  • Think creatively and brainstorm fun events and activities for kids’ camp and OP activations.
  • Source uniforms for staff within department and maintain uniform standards for all staff members, Schedule all staff within department, to include scheduling/time off, labor management to conform to budget and club needs.
  • Actively monitor budget and variance reports with Director of Outdoor Operations
  • Submit daily reports of activities throughout department to Director and Member Services
  • Provide risk management for all activities and spaces throughout department.
  • Perform first aid treatments when necessary.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as necessary.
  • Works with other departments or projects and frequently in a team environment
  • Handle member concerns in an effective manor, report any significant issues to direct manager.
  • Walk your area often to ensure tidiness and staff is attentive to members. All areas are to be kept organized and clean. All equipment should be maintained to manufacturers’ recommendations. Any equipment needing further attention should be brought to direct manager’s attention. Any safety incidents should be reported to direct manager immediately.
  • Conduct daily meetings with direct staff following morning leaders’ line-up to inform staff about key points of the day.
  • Maintain first aid kits, notify security supervisor when items need to be reordered.
  • Create weekly activity schedule and submit to Member Services weekly.
  • Create lifeguard rotation schedules daily.
  • Create beach setup layout plan daily.
