About The Position

This position works as part of a legal support team handling administrative and legal support responsibilities. It is a full-time, highly responsible position that requires the individual to work independently with limited supervision. Strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and the ability to multitask effectively are essential. This position operates in a fast-paced environment and assists a team of attorneys and investigators. The ideal candidate will have strong spelling and grammar, proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and either paralegal education or training, or experience working in a legal environment in a support role.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalency
  • Two (2) years of study in paralegal work, or graduation from an accredited four-year college
  • Related work experience in the Criminal Justice System may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required paralegal study program.
  • This is not a remote position. Regular in-office work is required.

Responsibilities

  • Corresponds with attorneys, court personnel, victims, law enforcement, and defendants (as needed) regarding diversion programs.
  • Analyzes, selects, compiles, and summarizes information on statutes, legal decisions, opinions, rulings, memoranda, or other legal material for internal use.
  • Examines and analyzes complaints and evidence of alleged or suspected violations of laws or regulations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, rules, precedents, or policies.
  • Examine legal instruments or other documents to assure completeness of information and conformance to pertinent laws, rules, regulations, precedents, or office requirements.
  • Assist in selecting, assembling, and summarizing information on legal instruments and specific legal subjects.
  • Conducts legal research as directed.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Performs all duties in a shortened, time-sensitive setting.
  • Dependable and routine in-office attendance during regularly scheduled business hours.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor as well as independently.
  • Ability to run the telephone system and respond to calls professionally.
  • Proficient with professional and timely email correspondence with attorneys, judges, victims, and members of the public regarding case-related matters.
  • May attend court proceedings, as needed, with Assistant State Attorney for Problem-Solving Courts.
