About The Position

As a seasonal Park Ranger 1 , your role will help keep our parks safe, welcoming, and well‑maintained through a mix of patrol, visitor service, and hands‑on maintenance work. Responsibilities include patrolling park areas to protect natural and cultural resources, encouraging visitor compliance with park rules, and providing emergency assistance when needed. Your role also supports custodial and landscape care, such as cleaning facilities, maintaining trails and irrigation systems, and performing minor repairs and construction. Additionally, this position provides visitor information, works collaboratively with partner agencies and neighboring landholders, and assists with general park operations, facility upkeep, and resource conservation. The main reporting location for this position will be Lake Owyhee, with scheduled maintenance trips to Succor Creek 2-3 times per week. Housing is NOT available at this location.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
  • An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience operating tools, equipment, 4x4 vehicles, ATV's and boats.
  • Experience in rule enforcement and generating voluntary compliance in a park setting.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a professional parks team setting.
  • Experience with facilities maintenance including cleaning restrooms, maintenance shops and offices.
  • Ability to work independently in remote wilderness park setting.
  • Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
  • Skill in overnight campground operations, including customer service, camper registration, cash handling, resolving complaints, completing shift reports, and reconciling paperwork.
