About The Position

Parking Enforcement Officers are responsible for patrolling an assigned area in order to enforce parking ordinances, issue parking citations, and provide general assistance to the public. Employees in this job class operate a city vehicle while patrolling assigned areas and assisting citizens. Employees frequently interact with citizens in order to help them find parking or to explain parking ordinances and parking citations. Parking Enforcement Officers also assist the Police Department with parking related issues.

Requirements

  • Driver’s license.
  • Customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties associated with parking enforcement by patrolling assigned area, identifying parking violations, and issuing parking citations.
  • Assists the public while patrolling assigned area by explaining parking ordinances, finding appropriate parking, and providing directions.
  • Performs duties to assist the Police Department with parking-related issues such as directing traffic for special events and completing required training to stay up to date on parking ordinance changes.
  • Completes documentation to record daily activities and report damaged or missing equipment, meters, and signs to notify appropriate person/department.
  • Prepares for daily assignment by checking supplies, inspecting and troubleshooting equipment and vehicle, and attending roll call to gather necessary information.
  • Calculates amount of time vehicles are parked in time-limited spaces to determine if parking violation has occurred.
  • Checks assigned patrol area for parking violations in non-designated spots (e.g., handicap, loading zones, emergency lanes, no parking) to determine if parking violation has occurred.
  • Testifies in court regarding parking citation disputes regarding reason for issuance of citation.
