About The Position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for executing all aspects of payroll processing from gross to net, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely compensation for employees across Sequoia Financial Group. This role performs payroll operations, maintains regulatory compliance, and partners cross-functionally to collect and validate payroll data, resolve discrepancies, and support a positive employee experience. The Payroll Specialist brings strong knowledge of payroll regulations, exceptional attention to detail, and a high degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with payroll and timekeeping systems (ADP and Workforce Manager strongly preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll in payroll processing.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, labor laws, taxation and statutory compliance.
  • Experience in conducting and supporting payroll audits, inspections and compliance assessments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification or relevant professional certification in payroll processing and or management preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices related to payroll.
  • Experience leading projects and driving change management initiatives
  • Understanding of financial principles and the ability to reconcile payroll with financial records.

Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end U.S. payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Calculate wages, deductions, garnishments, and taxes.
  • Administer timekeeping systems and ensure accurate recording of hours worked, PTO, and leave.
  • Maintain compliance with labor laws and internal controls, staying current on legislative changes.
  • Participate in and support payroll and timekeeping system upgrades, integrations, and enhancements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and deliver payroll-related reports for Finance, HR, and leadership.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on complex payroll issues and regulatory changes.
