The new pediatrician will work in a rural healthcare setting, seeing patients in a critical access hospital (CAH), as well as its affiliated clinic located directly across the street. The hospital has a Level I Well-Baby Nursery and sees approximately 180 births per year. Complex cases are transferred to a Level III NICU in Savannah. The pediatrician will see an average of 20 to 25 patients per day, with ample support from a dedicated team and administrative time built into the schedule. The duties of the pediatrician role include, but are not limited to: - newborn rounding - well child exams - school physicals - sick visits - evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment - refer patients to specialists as needed - discuss procedures, test results, and treatments with patients and families - recommend preventive health measures and habits - prescribe medications and formulate ongoing treatment plans The system uses the MEDITECH electronic health record. The pediatrician’s call schedule is 1:3 with a required 30-minute callback timeframe. The on-call duties are phone triage only, as overnight deliveries and inpatient complications are attended to by the on-site hospital staff. On-call volume is very low. This will be an autonomous role, with the pediatrician joining a 7-physician primary care practice (4 family medicine and 3 internal medicine providers) as the first pediatrician. There is a strong built-in referral base through the obstetrics department and the pediatrician will have a full panel of patients.
