About The Position

Permit Coordinator II: Reviews and processes utility permits requests from public utility companies, common carriers and others placing facilities on public highway right-of-ways in a district permit office. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Permit Coordinator III: Reviews and processes utility permit requests received in a district office from public utility companies, common carriers, and others placing facilities on public highway rights-of-way. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Permit Coordinator IV: Reviews, processes, and coordinates utility permit requests from public utility companies, common carriers, and others placing facilities on public highway rights-of-way in a district office. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school duties.
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Considerable knowledge of: Applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps.
  • Prioritizing and organizing work assignments.
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Communicating technical information effectively.
  • 1 YEAR permit or, utility processing and/or coordination, or related administrative/clerical support experience
  • 2 YEARS permit or, utility processing and/or coordination, or related administrative/clerical support experience
  • 3 YEARS permit or, utility processing and/or coordination, or related administrative/clerical support experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews correspondence and reports, and monitors data related to permit activities and compliance.
  • Coordinates with the Department of Motor Vehicles on permit changes, local routing issues, and up-to-date roadway changes for the transport of oversize/overweight loads on Texas highways.
  • Coordinates movement of extra-large loads with the Department of Motor Vehicles, maintenance, and other districts.
  • Maintains permit documentation, records, and plan sets.
  • Reviews applications, accepts payments, and processes oversize/overweight permits, determines location of structures and construction procedures for minimum disruption of the roadway function in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Trains and instructs others in permit related work.
