Pharmacist Pharmacy Resident
About The Position
A pharmacist-pharmacy resident is required to comply with state and federal laws regulated by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, and Food and Drug Administration. In doing so, a pharmacist must maintain records for controlled substances, remove outdated or damaged drugs from inventory, supervise the work results of support personnel, maintain a current registration, and stay up to date with current standard practices and laws. The pharmacy resident serves as a postgraduate year one (PGY-1) resident for the period of one year in accordance with the American Health-System Pharmacists’ standards. The resident will work as member of the pharmacy department to further develop their pharmacy practice and leadership skills.
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required
- State of Texas License as a Registered Pharmacist within 90 days of hire
Responsibilities
- Provides pharmacological information by answering requests of healthcare professionals and by monitoring drug therapy and advising on interventions.
- Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections
- Ensures accuracy of entered orders and timely delivery of medications to the respective recipient
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with established hospital policies and procedures.
- Works with Antimicrobial Stewardship, Medication Reconciliation, and complete consults as requested.
- Perform all tasks as designated by their pharmacist preceptor in each residency rotation.
