The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Physical Education K-12 or Special Education license required.
  • All candidates must have (or qualify to obtain) a current Colorado driver's license
  • All positions require a pre-employment drug test, FBI fingerprint check, CBI criminal records check, child abuse registry check, motor vehicle record check, academic record verification, and reference checks
  • Must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • Tennyson Center for Children currently does not sponsor work visas.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of previous experience working with groups of high risk children preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach physical education to K – 12 students.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Provide a safe, engaging environment with a focus on physical activity, social skills, and teamwork.
  • Collaborate cooperatively with others regarding behavior and special education needs, resulting in improved overall treatment outcomes.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Explicitly communicate expectations for student behavior.
  • Follow schedule for classes and provide additional support in the school when not instructing.
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
