About The Position

This position is located in the Development Center Division of the Development Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City and reports to the Development Center Manager. The Plan Review Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising a team of commercial and residential plans examiners, ensuring the accurate application of building, zoning, and trade codes to development projects in Oklahoma City.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ supervisory or management experience overseeing technical or code compliance staff.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Plans Examiner or Building/Trades Inspector in building, mechanical, electrical, or plumbing disciplines.
  • Possession of a valid International Code Council (ICC) Building Code Specialist certification.
  • NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain an ICC Building Code Specialist certification within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining an ICC Building Code Specialist certification within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
  • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting International Code Council (ICC) building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and zoning codes.
  • Knowledge of and skill in supervising professional, technical, and administrative staff.
  • Knowledge of and skill in applying general administrative and managerial techniques and methods.
  • Skill in critically assessing, organizing, and analyzing a wide variety of information.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to effectively train staff in building codes, policies, procedures, and customer service standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to participate in the Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals and related activities.
  • Ability to plan, design, implement, and evaluate current systems and system improvements.
  • Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for the operations of the work unit.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising plan review staff to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent service delivery.
  • Providing technical guidance and interpreting International Code Council (ICC) building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes.
  • Coordinating with other divisions and departments to streamline plan review, permitting, and inspections processes and procedures.
  • Training staff in building codes, policies, procedures, and customer service standards.
  • Reviewing complex or escalated plan submissions to ensure code compliance.
  • Managing relationships with external agencies, customers, and vendors.
  • Supporting City growth through proactive, safe, and timely plan review.
  • Participating in the Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals, including hearings, member appointments, and documentation.
  • Preparing budgets, accomplishments, goals, and other reports.
  • Writing and reviewing specifications and bids for equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Monitoring expenditures and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Implementing process and productivity improvements.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
