Job Description: The successful intern candidate will be a key member of the Open Ag R&D global team contributing to ongoing research in plant pathology. The position will be based at UPL’s OpenAg™ Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and reporting to the Global Research Lead for Plant Pathology. The successful candidate will: · Working with the scientists in the Plant and Seed Pathology team and support them in conducting research. · Perform general laboratory operations, including day-to-day activities, research supplies inventory, equipment maintenance, and maintaining plants and pathogen cultures. · Assist with setting up, conducting and completing experiments · Possess good observational skills and attention to detail in conducting activities. · Have demonstrated skill in organizing their time and managing multiple concurrent activities. · Be excited to tackle new challenges and develop new skills. · Be flexible and willing to help with tasks beyond those mentioned above.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree, or working towards a B.S. (junior or senior year) with at least one year of relevant experience preferred, soil science, botany, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with sterile technique and conducting experiments in lab and greenhouse with plants and pathogens.
  • Basic understanding of applied statistics to experimental data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office environment and willingness to learn company-specific software.
  • Ability to work in greenhouse conditions and lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with biologicals and chemicals of unknown toxicity and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to be trained in safe operating procedures and exercise them
  • Ability to work in the United States on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
  • Ability to understand and handle information that can be company confidential.
