About The Position

The Police Dispatcher position works within the UW-Stevens Point Police and Security Services Department. This position is most often the first contact with our campus community and the public through phone and face to face walk-ins.  This position provides critical communication via two-way radios, telephones and computers for the Campus Police and Security working in the field as well as coordinating internal and external communications for emergency campus wide alerts. This candidate must be able to prioritize, multitask, and remain calm during stressful incidents. The UW-Stevens Point Campus Police Department serves as a hub of all alarms and notification systems that are crucial to the safety of the UW-Stevens Point campus. This candidate must maintain an excellent understanding of Department and University policies and procedures.  The candidate is accountable for accurate dispatch logs and police records which are always sensitive and often highly confidential in nature. Shift: 10pm- 6am, M-F Full position description is available upon request.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Passing of background and criminal history check
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette.
  • The ability to remain calm in outwardly stressful incidents. This position primarily works alone and is limited to the immediate dispatch of office/areas during the working hours.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task when necessary.
  • Possess attention to details despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to use discretion and good judgment regarding confidential information

Responsibilities

  • Documents incidents accurately and adheres to all applicable policies, rules, and regulations
  • Troubleshoots, triages, and escalates issues according to established policies and procedures
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for response to emergency incidents for the institution
  • Communicates effectively and provides accurate and detailed instructions to all types of audiences in high stress emergency situations
  • Operates police radios, phone consoles, and various equipment and technologies to receive and processes requests and information from institutional affiliates, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies
