Works under the supervision of assigned supervisor to configure, install/de-install, maintain, and repair communication systems and other associated equipment for the City of Memphis Police Services, Fire Services, other City Divisions, and select outside agencies. Configures, maintains, and repairs handheld communications equipment such as two-way radios and radio accessories, pagers, and related equipment. Configures, installs, maintains, and de-installs in-vehicle communications and safety equipment such as two-way radios and the antenna systems for two-way radio equipment, sirens, emergency lights, etc. Installs after-market wiring and connects to factory wiring for power, control, and other functions. Configure, install, maintain, and de-install office-based communications equipment such as base stations, control stations, consolette radios, and other communications equipment including the antenna systems required for two-way radio operation. Configures, installs, maintains, and de-installs radio dispatch equipment such as Motorola MCC7500e console systems and the related equipment and accessories including footswitches, microphones, speakers, and other peripherals. Performs soldering and desoldering work on radio and communications devices, including soldering\desoldering on coaxial or other cables and installing, removing, or replacing small components on electronic circuit boards. Configures, repairs, and maintains microwave communications systems and their in-building or ground level waveguide or coaxial cable systems. Perform inspections of installed Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA)’s. Uses Radio Direction Finding or other technology to seek out Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) or Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) to the radio system, receivers, transmitters, and users. Follows set procedures to install, configure, and replace network equipment including switches, routers, and gateways. Installs various RF coaxial cables, waveguide, and other RF transmission lines. Installs cable connectors and terminations on all radio industry cables including coaxial cables, waveguide, and network cables such as ethernet. Follows Motorola R56 Standards and Guidelines for Communications sites to ensure proper electrical ground (bonding) to protect communications sites and equipment from lightning or electrical surges. Develops radio configuration or programming files to ensure customers can communicate properly. Tunes, adjusts, and aligns communications equipment to ensure it performs effectively and efficiently within manufacturers specifications and FCC regulations. Writes technical descriptions and creates simple drawings including floorplans or simple schematics using Microsoft Visio or similar computer programs. Maintains accurate and detailed inventories of equipment, configurations of equipment, and the location or assignments of equipment. Provides customer service including training and support to customers. Operates computer terminal, to add to, or modify operations and history database. Completes work ticket documentation in a timely manner for supervisor/manager approval. Drives to sites in and around the City to configure, repair, maintain, install/de-install communications equipment.
