About The Position

The Pool Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons using the aquatic facilities while overseeing the daily operations of the pool and supervising seasonal lifeguard staff. This position includes lifeguarding responsibilities along with managerial duties such as staff supervision, scheduling, facility oversight, and incident management. The Pool Manager promotes a safe, clean, and welcoming aquatic environment while ensuring all facility rules, safety procedures, and operational standards are followed. This is a seasonal position, typically running during the summer months.

Requirements

  • Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g., American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates) or ability to obtain.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or ability to obtain.
  • Strong swimming and water rescue skills.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team effectively.
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly and fairly.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to sun and heat.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects.
  • Must be able to be physically active for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment swim test.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous lifeguarding experience.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience in customer service or recreation management.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor the pool/aquatic area for potential hazards and unsafe behaviors.
  • Enforce all facility rules and regulations consistently and fairly.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid.
  • Administer CPR and/or AED as needed.
  • Ensure all lifeguards remain vigilant and actively scanning their assigned areas.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies according to established protocols.
  • Perform water rescues and provide appropriate follow-up care.
  • Administer first aid and CPR/AED as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and accidents.
  • Complete and submit incident and accident reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is accessible and in proper working condition.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to lifeguards and seasonal pool staff.
  • Create and manage staff work schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate lifeguard staff performance.
  • Conduct regular in-service training and safety drills.
  • Ensure staff maintain required certifications and follow all safety procedures.
  • Address staff concerns and assist with conflict resolution when needed.
  • Inspect the pool/aquatic area and equipment for safety and cleanliness.
  • Assist with general cleaning and maintenance of the facility.
  • Monitor water quality and chemical levels and report concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure pool equipment, safety equipment, and rescue gear are properly maintained.
  • Coordinate minor maintenance issues and report larger repairs to management.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to all patrons.
  • Answer questions and provide information about facility rules, programs, and services.
  • Address patron concerns or complaints in a professional manner.
  • Promote a positive, safe, and family-friendly environment.
  • Maintain daily logs, attendance records, and incident reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for the aquatic facility.
  • Communicate regularly with park or recreation department leadership regarding operations, issues, and staffing needs.
  • Maintain current lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Attend and conduct required in-service training and staff meetings.
  • Ensure all lifeguards complete required training and safety drills.
