Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in port operations, marine terminals, or logistics.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or lead experience managing dock crews or material handling operations.
  • Strong knowledge of port equipment, cargo handling procedures, and safety standards.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret operational plans, cargo manifests, and equipment documentation.
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet port operational schedules.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Employment in this role may be contingent upon the successful completion of certain pre-employment requirements, which could include a background check, drug screen, or driving record review, depending on the position

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
  • Certifications in rigging, signaling, or crane operation.
  • Experience with bulk materials, breakbulk cargo, or containerized cargo operations.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and communication tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of port crews, including equipment operators, riggers, and laborers.
  • Assist in the setup, inspection, and safe operation of port equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and other material handling machinery.
  • Ensure all cargo handling activities follow company policies, OSHA regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Report equipment issues, unsafe conditions, or operational delays to Foreman A or Operations Manager.
  • Monitor workflow and make operational adjustments to maintain efficiency.
  • Train and mentor crew members on operational procedures and safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate logs of work performed, equipment usage, and safety inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with Foreman A, vessel personnel, and terminal staff regarding operational progress and issues.
  • Assist in minor troubleshooting or adjustments of port equipment to ensure continuous operations.
  • Serve as the team leader for assigned crews when foreman A is off duty, ensuring all employee hours are accurately tracked and approved
  • Develop and manage crew schedules based on vessel arrivals, cargo types, and operational requirements.
  • Oversee payroll submissions for employees under their supervision, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Manager and HR team regarding staffing needs, attendance, and scheduling changes.
  • Maintain organized records of timekeeping, attendance, and payroll documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
