About The Position

Introduction: A sixteen month assignment for current college student working with Cadence's semiconductor IP team, designing best in-class SerDes in the latest semiconductor processes using leading industry tools and methodologies. We are seeking an exceptional intern to join our SerDes IP team in Toronto, Ontario. Candidates will be joining some of the brightest inventors and engineers in the world to develop products that make data faster and safer. As part of a smaller, tight-knit design group, you will be given opportunities to work on various tasks that span the entire business-engineering cycle. Our goal is to equip students with practical work experience and a big picture view of how business is conducted in the semiconductor industry. You will only be limited by your desire to learn and ambition to assume more responsibilities. We understand that it is best to learn by doing. We will provide tasks that enable you to learn while also making meaningful technical contributions. We also consider interns as full-fledged team members and as your knowledge grows, so does the number of tasks and their complexities. The internship program is also an important step in our full-time post-graduation recruitment strategy, with many of our former interns returning as full-time employees. Description: The Analog IC Characterization Engineer works with ultra-high speed lab equipment to prove Cadence’s designs in silicon. The job entails silicon evaluation, characterization, debug, and support. Also, the intern will be part of creating demonstrations of Cadence’ silicon to prospective customers.

Requirements

  • Students who have completed third year engineering in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Science
  • Strong academic background, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to excel working in a team environment
  • Proven self-starter with the ability to proactively identify problem situations and propose technically viable solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer some understanding of practical and theoretical aspects of high-speed analog/mixed-signal testing, including test equipment (BERTs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum/Network Analyzers), types of measurements (eye diagrams, jitter histograms, bathtub curves, s-parameters, TDR, etc), board design, GUI development, and test automation.
  • Prefer software programming experience using Python or similar object-oriented languages.
  • Would be working at Cadence Design Systems in accordance to University's co-op/intern requirements

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of Cadence’ leading edge SERDES designs in lab using cutting-edge test equipment such as BERTs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Protocol Analyzers
  • Development of software for configuring the device and test automation
  • Test Report generation
  • Development of test methodology and making improvements to current test practices
  • Conducting customer demonstration of Cadence’ products using evaluation boards
  • Leverage AI-powered tools and assistants to enhance productivity, improve decision making, and maintain high-quality customer deliverables.
  • Apply AI-powered analytics tools to extract insights, identify patterns, and generate actionable recommendations from complex datasets.
