About The Position

We are seeking a passionate, community‑focused Prevention Education Specialist to help empower youth and families across Tioga County. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with children, building strong relationships with community partners, and delivering meaningful education that promotes healthy decision-making. As a key representative of our prevention team, you will provide drug and alcohol education in schools, engage with community coalitions, and support efforts that strengthen wellbeing and resilience in our communities.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with children or youth groups
  • Strong organizational and event‑planning abilities
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel)
  • Comfort presenting to classrooms and community audiences
  • A passion for education, prevention, and community impact is essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Other fields of study may be considered with at least 12 credits in human services.

  • Two years of experience in public speaking and effective project management required.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (with renewal)
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance (with renewal)
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Check (with renewal)
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting (with renewal)

  • Prior teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver prevention education programs in classrooms across Tioga County school districts.
  • Participate in Student Assistance Program (SAP) teams to help identify and support at‑risk students.
  • Provide outreach and educational programming at community events throughout Tioga County.
  • Work with curriculum developers to obtain certification in approved evidence‑based prevention curricula.
  • Actively participate in the Communities That Care workgroup and other local coalitions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school administrators, teachers, and community partners.
  • Meet with school leaders to formalize classroom education agreements.
  • Uphold all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate SH Service Excellence expectations by greeting others enthusiastically and providing respectful, dignified C.A.R.E.
  • Serve as an ambassador for UPMC Susquehanna in all interactions.
  • Integrate evidence‑based practices into daily work and prioritize quality and safety.
  • Identify potential process improvements and speak up to ensure safe, high‑quality service delivery.
  • Complete all required documentation and reporting for funders, including online data submissions and narrative summaries for the Tioga County Department of Human Services.
  • Take responsibility for your own ongoing professional development and continuing education.
