About The Position

As a Principal Unity Gameplay Engineer at Fortis, you’ll take technical ownership of core gameplay systems in our upcoming mobile multiplayer title. A game built around simple, fast-paced sessions and strong social connection. You’ll play a key role in bringing our “Mass Social” vision to life: enabling players to quickly jump in and out of fun, approachable gameplay while still feeling part of a vibrant, evolving community. Partnering with cross-functional leaders, you’ll help shape the long-term technical direction of the game and ensure our gameplay experiences are scalable, performant, and deeply engaging.

Requirements

  • Expert-level knowledge of the Unity game engine and strong experience with mobile game development.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect complex gameplay systems and tools that are both intuitive and resilient to change.
  • Proven track record of solving deeply technical issues that span multiple systems or platforms, including in live environments.
  • Deep understanding of C# and performance-critical programming practices, with attention to data structures, memory management, and optimization.
  • Ability to make strategic technology choices that balance business goals, user experience, and engineering constraints.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects or initiatives that required coordination across multiple disciplines or teams.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align stakeholders, mentor peers, and foster collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience guiding or developing test strategies for high-quality systems—strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain foundational gameplay systems that are scalable, extensible, and optimized for live operations.
  • Lead technical initiatives that drive improvements in developer velocity, game stability, and system architecture.
  • Act as the technical authority for gameplay systems—owning their long-term health, test strategy, and performance across the full game lifecycle.
  • Mentor and support engineers across disciplines and experience levels, providing architectural guidance and promoting best practices.
  • Drive the resolution of high-impact technical risks, cross-team dependencies, and live issues—often under ambiguous or time-sensitive conditions.
  • Collaborate with product and design leadership to align gameplay tech direction with player experience and business objectives.
  • Contribute to and influence the broader technical strategy of the engineering organization.
  • Evangelize reusability and system-level thinking by creating tools, libraries, or workflows that benefit multiple teams or projects.
