About The Position

This position is responsible for the operations associated with the initial receipt, washing, filtering, and batching of incoming Red Blood Cell packs using various types of equipment as defined in the department work instructions. Performance of placing batches into product specific diluents by means of repeated washing, centrifuging, and aspirating in support of production schedules. Position is also responsible for performing other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED level education required.
  • Must be dependable, well organized, possess good interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven solid work history.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various machines, equipment, and devices such as Aspirators, Centrifuges, Auto-Fillers, Peristaltic Pumps, and more.
  • Ability to track numerous samples utilizing a number of different instruments and maintaining printouts.
  • Ability to accurately measure, pour and/or decant liquids.
  • Ability to perform general arithmetic.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the Employee-Right-To-Know Program.

  • Prior laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all raw material sampling and check-in procedures.
  • Aseptically transfer Red Blood Cells packs into blood bottles and submit verification and micro samples.
  • Assist with the initial washing, batching and filtering of incoming RBC packs. Additional processing duties such as gathering labware and setting up aspirating pumps and fill stations.
  • Maintain all production in the Processing Department according to Standard Operating Procedures to maintain organization and compliance.
  • Utilize aseptic procedures to maintain clean work areas. Follow proper hand washing protocols when entering and exiting manufacturing areas.
  • Communicate all information pertinent to processing work instructions and productions schedules to management.
  • Report all problems, procedure or process issues, or personnel concerns to management
  • Comply with departmental and company safety guidelines and regulations (including FDA and ISO regulations).
  • Record component usage to appropriate documentation.
  • Strict adherence to established Quality Systems and documentation as they pertain to manufacturing activities.
  • Provide input on improving established procedures for production through cost, time and labor saving ideas.
  • Attend all departmental functions including any meeting to discuss production problems or new products.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
