About The Position

Seeking temporary help to support our Food and Beverage R&D organization in Product Development and Applications (PD&A). This position will report to the Bridgeton, MO, PD&A Manager but will work on site with, and take direction from, the Inclusion Scientist in Defiance, OH. The candidate will participate in a wide variety of tasks/projects, with an emphasis on supporting new product development of inclusions used in various food applications. The working environment will include office, laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing environments. The scope of work will include development and improvement of new and existing processes and products, conducting lab scale and bench top experiments, new product commercializations, product characterization studies, qualifying new raw materials, application development, and performing analytical work.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or other science-related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to think critically.
  • Highly self-motivated individual comfortable working individually and able to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently within the context of a fast-paced, busy environment.
  • Proficient with computer skills, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications, and be able to easily learn new applications.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong interest in food (ie cooking, baking, etc) is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working safely in all situations: follows and enforces all safety policies, demonstrates safe behaviors including use of safety equipment and equipment safeguards, and champions the Balchem safety programs.
  • Follows GMP protocols, regulatory requirements, and works to ensure product compliance with regulatory bodies like FDA.
  • Aids Product Development in various ways including, but not limited to, overseeing inventory (ordering, tracking, labeling, etc), shipping samples, and maintaining lab cleanliness.
  • Supports Product Development in raw material collection, ingredient preparation, sample preparation, and analytical testing.
  • Sample sizes range from benchtop to pilot plant size.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work environment can vary and consist of varying temperatures, slippery conditions, elevated noise level and large production machinery.
