Inside the Role Lead the Vehicle Emissions Compliance/Regulatory Affairs team within the Product Integrity – Emissions department. Candidate will be responsible for leading all Daimler Truck North America Certification activities for vehicle-level emissions for all DTNA brands. The candidate will also be responsible for leading regulatory development activities, including engaging with federal and state emissions regulatory agencies, and developing emissions compliance strategies in collaboration with engineering, sales, and product strategy. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing key external affairs efforts that affect our product compliance. In addition to project management and technical leadership, key responsibilities of this role include hiring and development of employees, actively engaging and promoting DEI, and successful implementation of employee engagement improvement initiatives to benefit team morale. This role is one of three Level 4 managers within Product Integrity - Emissions department, which aspires to be the industry role model for compliance – to live the spirit of the law, not just the letter of the law. The organization is responsible for the emissions, GHG and OBD certification and post SOP compliance of the Detroit powertrain; the GHG certification and post-SOP compliance of all DTNA, FCCC and TBB vehicles;; Detroit powertrain tCMS, Detroit Reman compliance support; CRA project management. The department also plays a crucial role in shaping the future emissions regulations in North America by working closely with EPA and CARB, as well as through EMA. Compliance activities include but are not limited to Vehicle-level emissions certification with EPA, CARB, ECCC, NHTSA, and others as appropriate. Setting and enforcing requirements for DTNA engineering, product strategy, and sales to ensure compliance with vehicle-level emissions regulations. Production vehicle labels. Development/Support of appropriate IT infrastructure, sales coding, and compatibility related to compliance with regulations. Advise on matters related to potential emissions defects. Lead development of DTNA regulatory strategy, including: Projecting emissions credit scenarios under various product and regulatory scenarios, including CO2, NOx, Fuel Economy, and other credits as necessary. Collaborate with internal partners in the engineering, sales, and strategy organizations to determine best pathways to ensure compliance and allow DTNA to have best-in-class products in the market. Track, calculate, and report on emissions credits for produced vehicles and engines. Engage in regulatory development efforts with regulators, including EPA, CARB, NHTSA, ECCC, and others. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop positions, desired outcomes, and supporting arguments, and work to actively shape regulations to ensure our success. Actively collaborate with internal partners to achieve best results. Actively collaborate with EMA members representing DTNA’s best interest. Interface to CARB, EPA, NHTSA, and ECCC for emissions topics. Drive innovation, change and continuous improvement. Focus on market needs and practice strong customer focus. Recruit talented engineering staff as needed. Motivate, inspire, and develop top talent by utilizing a continuous feedback culture and transparent communication. Actively promote transcending compliance culture within the organization. Manage and plan departmental budget, including external resources funding. Domestic travel will be required to support face to face meeting with EPA, CARB and EMA members. Some international travel is possible.
