About The Position

Harrison Steel is a family owned company that engineers and manufactures castings of 350 to 12,500 pounds, net casting weight, for businesses in industries such as agriculture, mining, and oil and gas. Founded in 1906 by J.W. Harrison and originally named the National Car Coupler Company, HS is located in Attica, Indiana. Attica is a rural city surrounded by traditional Midwest farmland that about 3,200 residents call home. The foundry is a 40-minute drive from Lafayette, Indiana or Danville, Illinois, and 1.5 hours from Indianapolis.

Requirements

  • CAD design capability.
  • Advanced computer skills with ability to evaluate and use various software.
  • Mechanical aptitude to design functional tooling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with various people throughout the plant.
  • College level course work at Junior level or higher
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, CAD, basic robotic programming

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Welding Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Robotics Engineering Technology or Mechatronics

Responsibilities

  • Assists with project planning and development
  • Assists with project scheduling, scope, and risk management
  • Performs administrative activities associated with project management such as scheduling, facilitating meetings, creating documentation, forecasting efforts and status reporting
  • Work closely with Engineers during R&D of new automation of our Oxy-Fuel Cutting process
  • Gain understanding of day-to-day plant operations
  • Using standard operating procedures, established engineering processes and basic calculations, performs routine engineering assignments, including research, testing, design and development.
  • Applies engineering procedures and calculations to develop solutions to problems that require some minor innovation.
  • Use AutoCAD to create drawings and equipment details
  • Use Inventor to create 3-D models of equipment
  • Use Excel to tabulate data and perform calculations
  • Assist project managers in creating and completing written reports
  • Perform engineering calculations on equipment designs
  • Work closely with professional engineers
  • Assist engineers and technicians with field load testing of equipment
  • Assist in organizing and storing equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
