Production Specialist BYU Broadcasting is seeking a skilled and versatile Production Specialist to support and lead live and studio productions across BYUtv. This role combines technical directing, directing, camera operation, and student-crew training, playing a key part in delivering high-quality live sports and multicamera productions. You’ll join a collaborative, mission-focused team creating content that uplifts, inspires, and connects audiences worldwide, where your technical expertise, leadership, and creativity will directly shape the quality of our broadcasts. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on production environments, enjoys mentoring developing talent, and can confidently lead live sports broadcasts from both the control room and the field.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU and BYU Broadcasting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts, Communications, or a related field; advanced degree a plus
  • 2 years working in professional television or film production OR 6 years Education & Experience equivalent.
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and people management skills

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Technical Director for productions while hiring, training, and mentoring student Technical Directors and camera operators.
  • Teach best practices for multicamera workflows, control room operations, and studio production.
  • Assist with pre-production planning and ensure smooth operational logistics.
  • Direct live BYU sports broadcasts (volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball) and other assigned shows.
  • Lead pre-production meetings, determine production approaches, and coordinate resources.
  • Execute high-quality multicamera broadcasts in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Operate cameras for studio, live multicamera, and electronic field productions.
  • Provide on-set technical instruction and guidance to maintain production quality and consistency.
