About The Position

As a Production & Tooling Engineer, you are a key member of the NCA Beverage Container Engineering team, reporting Manager, Engineering Beverage Container. You will contribute to the success of Ball by managing and executing regional North & Central America (NCA) project work as it relates to product engineering and tooling. These projects may include (not limited to) lightweighting of existing aluminum containers, new product introductions to existing plants and new products installed into new plant builds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design, CAD or manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing projects (scoping projects and timeline generation).
  • Experience applying lean manufacturing and six sigma methodologies in daily activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Materials and materials engineering
  • Tooling design
  • Technical drawings
  • Understanding of bill of materials
  • Understanding of statistical reporting; ability to analyze and take action

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language proficiency (written and verbal skills).
  • Skilled working in Minitab
  • Beverage can manufacturing experience

Responsibilities

  • Support operational teams on all aspects of aluminum product performance and high speed metal forming, including tooling and process troubleshooting.
  • Participate in large scale capital projects relating to launching new products in existing or new plant builds. This includes cost estimations, product specifications, machine tooling specifications, and project management for tooling design and procurement.
  • Facilitate capital projects relating to metal reduction (lightweighting) of existing aluminum containers.
  • Assist in strategic planning by assessing feasibility cost, and benefit of new and lightweight products.
  • Provide technical support on and off site related to product adherence to specifications, product performance, and work with process machine, tooling and toolroom employees.
  • Use statistical tools, SPC, Six Sigma, Minitab and more to analyze large quantities of product data for development and fault finding purposes; perform product testing using various in-process and finished product quality measuring gauges.
  • Travel (up to 50%) to off-site production facilities for hands-on troubleshooting and support. Support operations to drive for year-over-year improved quality, efficiency and reduced spoilage and operating costs by reviewing processes, tooling design and trialing modifications where appropriate.
  • Maintain existing Engineering development databases and systems.
