To advance the organization’s mission and vision, PAI is hiring a highly-experienced, strategic, and dynamic Program and Research Lead of AI, Labor, & Economy (AILE) to be based remotely in the US. This role will be filled by a strategic operator, substantive contributor, and partnership and project manager with demonstrated experience managing complex multi-stakeholder initiatives. PAI is committed to ensuring that the effects of AI deployments on workers are beneficial, not harmful, and that workers in high, medium, and low-income countries have a role in steering the development of AI. Reporting to the Head of AI, Labor, & Economy, the Program and Research Lead of AI, Labor & Economy is a critical member of the PAI team and will serve as both an operational backbone and substantive contributor to the team’s cross-organizational and multistakeholder efforts to shape how AI impacts the economy and workforce globally over the next 2-7 years. This role requires someone who can contribute analytical expertise and economic insights to program outputs, translate strategic vision into actionable partnerships, manage high-stakes relationships across diverse stakeholder groups, and plan and execute complex convenings and deliverables with minimal supervision in collaboration with colleagues. The Lead will work across PAI's partner community—including leading AI companies, labor organizations, civil society groups, international institutions, and philanthropic funders—to coordinate partnerships, manage program operations, contribute to research and analysis, and ensure deliverables meet the highest standards of quality and impact. This role requires exceptional project management skills, substantive expertise or background in a relevant field (expertise in all fields is not required; this may include fields such as but not limited to e.g. labor, economic policy, education or workforce development policy, international development, the economies of low- and middle-income countries, technology), and the ability to build trust and facilitate collaboration among stakeholders with fundamentally different perspectives and interests. As organizational priorities evolve, this role may flex across adjacent programmatic areas to support PAI’s broader mission and goals.
