Scope of Position: Carrier Building Systems is a leading provider of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, building controls and automation, and fire and security systems leading to safer, smarter, sustainable, and high-performance buildings. Carrier BSM is a unit of Carrier Corp., a leading provider to the building systems industries worldwide. A Building Automation Project Engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of multiple projects and resources and serving as a subject matter expert on commissioning and consulting on projects control installations. In this position you will be leading projects that ensure reliable controls solutions, promote safety, meet industry standards, and ensure that people live and work in facilities that operate as they are intended. You will work with Project Managers, Field installation team, electrical subcontractors, other engineers, and management to successfully install and commission innovative building automation solutions, tailored to meet the needs of the building and customer.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree, or Technical School
  • 6+ years of overall HVAC controls experience
  • Possess and maintain valid and current Driver’s License and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier
  • Ability to travel in excess of 25% of typical workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel as well as participate in rotating on call schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, ideally with a concentration in HVAC&R.
  • Field experience and an understanding of the installation and operation of Automated Logic Controls and ability to understand/navigate third party control systems and integrations.
  • Some experience with Automated Logic: WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, LogicBuilder, InterOp 3.02, Alert, Draw, EDB, Eikon, Supervision, and Accel Works.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Independently manages the full project lifecycle, including scheduling, budgeting, resource coordination, and execution for multiple concurrent projects.
  • System Commissioning: Leads the definition, oversight, and commissioning of complex building automation systems (BAS) to ensure they are fully functional and secure.
  • Technical Expert: Serves as the subject matter expert for troubleshooting, system definition, and advanced control architectures, providing both on-site and remote support.
  • Integration Specialist: Manages complex third-party system integrations and diagnoses communication issues to ensure stable network connectivity.
  • Software & Graphics: Develops and implements project-specific software, HVAC logic, and graphical interfaces using WebCTRL and Automated Logic tools.
  • Quality Control: Reviews design documentation, DDC modules, and control algorithms to ensure strict compliance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Team Mentorship: Supports field operations by training and mentoring team members on documentation, field procedures, and smart building technologies.
  • Cross-Functional Liaison: Acts as a primary link between engineering, field technicians, electrical subcontractors, and leadership to deliver innovative automation solutions.
  • Networking & Tech Proficiency: Demonstrates strong knowledge of TCP/IP networks, Ethernet, ARC Net, and general Windows-based software for system maintenance.
  • Communication & Interpretation: Translates complex technical information for non-technical audiences and accurately interprets architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints.
