About The Position

NYSERDA is seeking a Project Manager, Advanced Nuclear to be part of a newly formed team within the Large-Scale Resources (LSR) Business Unit that will lead NYSERDA's future efforts on advanced nuclear industry development. The Project Manager will report to the Director of Advanced Nuclear and will lead the day-to-day operations of NYSERDA's advanced nuclear initiatives. This includes managing timelines, project plans, and budgets; working with internal NYSERDA teams, other agencies, and consultants; coordinating stakeholder engagement; preparing briefings; contributing to program initiatives; and other crosscutting support. In January 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the start of a process to develop a Master Plan for Responsible Advanced Nuclear Development in New York. NYSERDA, together with the Department of Public Service (DPS) and working with other State Agencies, leads on the development of the Master Plan. The development of the Master Plan will provide a framework for in-depth examination into the key issues raised by the Blueprint to develop recommendations for implementation of advanced nuclear technologies in New York State. The Master Plan development process is expected to conclude with publication by the end of 2026. Overall, the execution of these initiatives will support New York's 2040 clean energy goals, enhance grid stability, and meet surging demand from data centers and manufacturing. NYSERDA will continue to play a central role in the advancement of nuclear and other dispatchable zero-emissions technologies and this Director position will be a central role to realize these outcomes.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in Nuclear Science/ Nuclear Engineering/ Nuclear Technology with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills, the ability to make an impact and present effectively to a range of audiences.
  • Excellent written communication including document drafting skills for both technical and layman audiences.
  • Attention to detail and ability to execute and implement new initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree preferably in Nuclear Science/ Nuclear Engineering/ Nuclear Technology with at least 4 years of relevant experience and Zero emissions tech expertise
  • Demonstrated experience working on nuclear energy projects in the private or public sector, preferably in North America’s advanced nuclear sector.
  • Sound understanding of, and demonstrated experience with, relevant finance and economics in the context of project development, including such as in the areas of project finance or infrastructure finance, and related financial and cost analysis tools.
  • Experience with development of energy policy and programs in the private or public sector.

Responsibilities

  • Project management. Support Advanced Nuclear program management activities, including development of program needs, service provider procurements, work plans, timelines and deliverables; maintaining organized document management systems.
  • Team support. Coordinate and facilitate internal and external meetings; manage team travel arrangements and other logistics.
  • Contract management. Support contracting processes, documentation and activities, maintaining oversight over contractor performance, quality control of deliverables and budget expenditures.
  • Stakeholder engagement. Manage external stakeholder contact lists, outreach efforts, event opportunities and any associated tracking systems; serve as primary point of contact for the Advanced Nuclear Team with internal and external stakeholders, develop and manage relationships with key partners; support broader nuclear team stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Tracking market trends and analysis. Track and keep the Advanced Nuclear team and NYSERDA leadership appraised of relevant federal, state and industry activities and trends.
  • Briefings. Maintain program talking points, question and answer documents and other standard briefing materials; prepare briefings, presentations and other materials for staff, leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Program development. Contribute to development and implementation of advanced nuclear programs and workstreams.
