About The Position

To carry out educational and service activities of the Criminal Justice Initiative, including outreach, facilitation of inmate HIV/AIDS Peer Education, support groups, confidential HIV counseling and testing, special activities and other services. To design, implement and revise as necessary, trainings for inmate Peer Educators, facility staff and other individuals.

Requirements

  • Position requires an Associate Degree in Health Education, Nursing or related, and/or three (3) years’ experience in Health Education.
  • Position requires previous peer educator development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to study information so as to determine, define and comprehend its elements.
  • PHE must be a credible, culturally sensitive educator
  • Listening skills are also especially important for quality crisis intervention and HIV test counseling work.
  • Position is recognized as one who is very knowledgeable.
  • Has a “can-do” attitude and is a positive influence on others.
  • Position requires automobile, driver’s license and insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining culturally sensitive appropriate literature on, and educational approaches for HIV/AIDS education for all targeted populations
  • Teaching and counseling inmates and facility staff about HIV/AIDS.
  • Assist clients in developing risk reduction plans.
  • Encourage others to share knowledge and information with timeliness while modeling those same behaviors.
  • Maintain productive work relationships with colleagues and others.
  • Coordination of outreach, education and other services with other PathStone staff, inmate Peer Educators, DOCS staff and community providers.
  • Development of evaluation tools assessment of W/PI Program components such as REACH.
  • Collection of daily program data. Monthly reporting of cumulative data to supervisor.
  • Encourages others to take positive action on problem solving and/or new assignments.
  • Development and use of HIV/AIDS related training materials for inmates, inmate Peer Educators, facility staff and others.
  • Orientation and ongoing training for the Peer Educators.
