About The Position

We are looking for a Procurement Specialist to support material purchasing and vendor coordination within a structural steel fabrication environment. This role is responsible for sourcing steel materials, performing takeoffs, and ensuring accurate material planning to support production schedules. The position works closely with detailing, production, and project teams to maintain workflow efficiency and avoid material shortages. This is a strong fit for someone who can read fabrication drawings and manage procurement in a fast-paced manufacturing or construction setting.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, steel construction, or a related industry
• Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication prints
• Strong understanding of material takeoffs for steel components
• Experience in purchasing, procurement, or material planning within a fabrication or construction environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and procurement systems
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies in drawings and quantities
• Effective communication and negotiation skills with vendors and internal teams

Nice To Haves

• Experience reviewing NC1 files, CAD drawings, or detailing outputs preferred

Responsibilities

• Review structural steel drawings, fabrication prints, and marked-up plans to determine material requirements
• Perform detailed material takeoffs for beams, columns, plates, and assemblies
• Place and manage purchase orders based on project schedules and production demand
• Review drawings, NC1 files, and CAD outputs to ensure accuracy prior to procurement
• Coordinate with vendors to confirm pricing, material availability, and delivery timelines
• Track material orders, deliveries, and supplier commitments to align with project schedules
• Maintain inventory levels and allocate materials to active jobs as needed
• Collaborate with detailing and production teams to verify quantities and resolve discrepancies
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times with suppliers to support cost control
• Communicate material status, risks, and delays to internal stakeholders including project teams and leadership
