About The Position

Applied Materials’ CTO group is searching for a quantum technology engineer intern to join our team! At Applied’s CTO group, we focus on solid-state solutions for quantum technology, i.e. superconducting qubits, photonic quantum computing, and photonic systems for neutral atom/trapped ion. Our primary objective is to collaborate with system companies and universities to develop quantum devices with significantly lower error rates compared to current standards. Our approach centers on harnessing state of the art materials engineering and semiconductor processing, as well as our expertise in advanced optics and other relevant areas to enhance device performance. To achieve this goal, we're seeking individuals with a strong background in optics and photonic devices to join our expanding team. The position will entail the following:

Requirements

  • Student must be pursuing a PhD’s degree program in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge and coursework in optics and photonic devices
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in photonic device fabrication and modeling preferred
  • Experience with AMO experiments desired

Responsibilities

  • Design and simulation of photonic structures for neutral atom/trapped ion quantum computing platforms
  • Design and conduct testing of optical films and devices
  • Explore new optical devices for neutral atom/trapped ion quantum computing leveraging Applied’s expertise in precision material engineering
