Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution is required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of heavy mobile equipment or diesel repair program from accredited institution
  • Documented experience in heavy equipment repair, preferably over 3 years
  • Ability to pass written and/or oral assessment proctored by the company
  • Sitting, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Twisting, Climbing, Crawling, Balancing, Bending (bending at the waist, lifting above the waist and lifting below the waist), Kneeling, Reaching, Grasping (use of both hands), Squatting, Repetitive Motions, Manipulative finger movements with both hands, Use of Wrists (Flexing or Rotating with both wrists), Use of both feet, Use of Arm Above Shoulder (needs both arms), Use of Arm Below Shoulder (needs both arms). Extended periods of time in same position, Confine space, perform duties in all climates i.e. weather, extreme temperatures, Heights, Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Capable of wearing respiratory protective equipment, i.e. disposable respirators; will require a pulmonary function test. Work in dust, fumes, gases and chemicals.
  • Climbing to include, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body ability is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
  • Balancing is maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind or balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Stooping is bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Walking is moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
  • Working with hand tools for extended periods of time.
  • General vision, hear, listen and speak clearly.
  • Mental and visual concentration during shift for efficient plant operation.
  • Listening and mental attentiveness in dealing with training issues and managers' requirements.
  • Mental effort required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require constant refocusing.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and inspect heavy equipment in order to diagnose problems.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using available diagnostic equipment, including computerized diagnostics and be able to assist contracted repair service technicians.
  • Inspect equipment and assess needed repairs, work with vendors and supervision to order parts needed.
  • Schedule repairs and maintenance intervals, keep service records for each piece of equipment.
  • Familiar with equipment functions and proper operating principles.
  • Repair of electronic components and wiring as applicable to the situation encountered.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics and technical drawings.
  • Adjust, maintain, repair or replace subassemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials, cylinders, hydraulic systems, wiring, onboard computers, cooling systems, fuel systems, A/C systems, track and undercarriage assemblies, planetary gears, etc. using hand tools, power tools, jacks, boom truck or crane.
  • Clean equipment as necessary to effect repairs, clean parts for repair and reassembly.
  • Examine bearings and parts for excessive wear or damage using micrometers, gauges or other applicable techniques.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment such as belt replacement, lighting, back up alarms lubrication system inspection, etc.
  • Weld, flame cut or solder broken parts and frames when necessary.
  • Test heavy equipment after repair to ensure proper performance.
  • Able to understand and generate required inspection reports.
  • Prioritize equipment repairs for effective plant operation.
  • As new equipment and technology becomes available in the plant, additional training may be required to maintain proficient skills.
  • Any other activities requested by the Supervisor that is consistent with this job classification and not included above.
