POSITION SUMMARY The Mechanical Engineering Intern will provide technical support focusing on the design, development, testing, and implementation of mechanical systems on fire trucks. Engineering projects typically require collaboration with other engineering teams, purchasing, manufacturing, service, and sales - giving the engineering intern a broad level of exposure to how engineering processes impact operations within Rosenbauer America.

Requirements

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar technical field required.
• Able to read and interpret scientific and technical documents.
• Able to actively participate in engineering discussions by listening and asking relevant questions.
• Able to follow written and verbal directions.
• Basic math functions and accounting abilities with a high aptitude for accuracy.
• Able to perform intermediate PC functions including the use of spreadsheet tables and formulas.
• Able to work within SolidWorks or CAD.
• Able to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in standardized situations.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines.
• Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
• Able to understand and follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in heavy truck systems, fire trucks, or auto repair preferred.
• Participation in extracurricular activities such as SAE student competitions, Solar Vehicle competitions, FIRST Robotics, science fairs, research, or other home projects related to engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the design, prototype, and testing phases for new and improved mechanical systems for fire trucks, as a team member on one or more engineering projects.
• Create and maintain design documentation, such as BoMs, mechanical drawings, and test reports
• Analyze and problem-solve design, production, and field issues to successful resolution.
• Communicate with management throughout the process of researching, developing, testing, and implementing engineering designs.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.
