About The Position

The Racing Coordinator works to lead and implement projects, programs, and processes in support of the organization's overall Racing Office strategies. This position serves important analytical and operational functions within NYRA’s Racing Department. The position plays a central role in translating data into actionable racing strategy — supporting Condition Book development, overseeing incentive programs, managing stall and ship-in workflows, and monitoring industry trends that influence participation in New York and contribute to long-term racing product stability. This position applies practical knowledge of racing operations to administer best in class policies, standard operating procedures, and plans for the Company’s racing business. Ultimately, the position is responsible for assisting in the growth and development of the Company’s racing program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Finance, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–5 years experience in racing operations, sports administration, or data coordination.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reporting).
  • Exceptional proofreading and document-control skills.
  • Knowledge of Thoroughbred racing terminology and condition structures.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a live racing environment.

  • Experience with racing management systems.
  • Familiarity with stall allocation processes.
  • Working knowledge of NY-bred and NY-sired incentive programs.
  • Understanding of purse accounting and bonus reconciliation procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Condition Book Management: Input races into the condition book, proof and produce. Coordinate with racing secretary, stakes team, finance and legal regarding stakes language, conditions and desired language. Proof and input condition book levels, bonus programs, weights and all restricted race designations.
  • Stakes Schedule Administration: Maintain and update the master stakes schedule document(s) for all meets. Track purse levels, sponsorships, graded statuses, nomination deadlines and condition changes in a proactive manner that makes it easy to communicate changes and performance both internally and externally to all stakeholders.
  • Stall Assignment and Stable Coordination: Assist racing and stable operations with stall assignment planning and tracking. Maintain updated stall inventory reports by trainer, allotment period and barn location working in close coordination with the stall office.
  • Ship In Approvals and Entry Support: Review and approve horses shipping into NYRA racing in coordination with racing secretary’s office, vet teams and verify eligibility requirements and documentation. Assist racing department in filling difficult to fill conditions and in recruiting participation form other jurisdictions and venues.
  • Bonus and Incentive Program Management: Administer and implement NYRA’s racing bonus programs including eligibility tracking, and qualification validation, internal approval as well as coordinating with finance and bookkeeper’s office.
  • NYTB Enrichment and Incentive Stats: Maintain and update stats related to NY bred and NY sired participation in coordination with NY Thoroughbred Breeders.
  • Reporting and Monthly Analytics: Produce monthly racing summaries for stakeholder consumption that include field size, starts, avg purse level, and bonus program utilization.
  • Regional and industry trend monitoring: Track racing schedules, purse schedules and condition changes at competing tracks. Monitor industry trends affecting horse supply, field size and participation patterns. Maintain comparative reports analyzing: competing race offerings, overlapping stakes schedules and incentive program changes.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Serve as liaison between racing secretary’s office, stakes administration, stable operations, finance, NYTB, NYTHA and marketing/communications.
